Scott: Hopefully in September 2001 we have a new album coming out. But the cool thing about that is it's not just going to be an album, it's going to be a soundtrack for a movie, a Moffatt movie. So that's going to be pretty cool, we're actually in the process of working on that. Host: What are some of your goals inside and outside of music, is one of those goals a movie? Scott: I think acting is something we'd definitely like to try out. This wont necessarily be like 'we're going to try and be actors,' we're going to be ourselves in a movie. We're not going to be try and be like the next big act or anything... Host: Is there actually a script that was formed? Clint: We just read through this kind of like idea. You know when you read about a movie, one of those like 2 lines that tells you about the movie. So we kinda read about that, which brings in the whole idea of the movie. But there's not a script completely yet. Scott: Working on that right now. Host: What can you compare it to? James Stevenson in the Sun I remember described it almost... said that it was almost gonna be like 'A Hard Day's Night.' Not a Spice Girls kind of movie. Scott: Exactly. Clint: Something like 'Hard Day's Night' or Spinal Tap even. June 1999
The movie obviously never happened, but I have spoken to a person who wrote treatments for this Moffatt Movie. Due to his generosity, it is my pleasure to share Tim Sullivan's work in it's original unfinished state. Please do not use without permission. For more information on Tim Sullivan, please check his IMDB listing, and Shock And Roll. His original emails follow.
Hello-
Tim Sullivan here, associate producer of DETROIT ROCK CITY and writer/director of the upcoming horror comedy 2001 MANIACS. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0838374/
Back in 2000, after DETROIT ROCK CITY was released, I was approached by Trip Dubois and Rob Gordon of Capitol Records to write and produce a MOFFATTS movie for the Disney Channel. This was right before the album CHAPTER ONE was about to be released. I hung out with the band several times getting to know their personalities for the story, and came up with several great concepts. We took many meetings with the Disney Channel, and it looked like the movie was gonna happen... Then the album didn't perform as well as everybody had planned, and the movie idea was scrapped. It always amazed me, because I thought those guys were four of the most incredibly talented musicians I ever met. Being a rocker (Hell, I produced DETROIT ROCK CITY for God's sake), I always felt these guys were a bit leashed by the pop image imposed on them at a time when "boy bands' were in vogue. These guys were not a "boy band", they were a rock and roll band'. I'll always remember standing backstage watching them open for Britney Spears at the Shrine Auditorium. They were rocking out, kicking and jumping, playing actual instruments for God's sake, and the crowd of tween girls were barely impressed. They just couldn't wait for Britney to do her lip synch thing. At the time, I became close to Dave, and always wondered what happened to him. Your amazing site has answered that question, while doing the band proud. If you'd like, I can email you the treatment that was written for the Moffatts movie, which was to be called FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH (Bet not too many fans know about that!)
Additionally, if there is any way you know of putting me in touch with Dave, I would be very grateful.
Keep up the good work,
Tim Sullivan

Purple- WOW! That was one helluva reply. Thanks for getting back to me. Here is the treatment written in 1999 for the Disney Channel for two different versions of the MOFFATTS movie that never was (And yes, this was the movie they talked about to much music). It's interesting to note that the idea was also for this movie to be the band's second album. Looking at it now, it's probably best it was never done, as it would have truly cemented the band's "pop" status which I could just sense was something the boys were not happy pursuing (Lucky for me as well, as it might have pigeonholed me and prevented me from pursuing the more R rated horror and comedy projects that I've done). Nonetheless, for fans of these guys, this is an interesting look back at what might have been. Feel free to post it on your site along with this email and my previous email explaining about the project and my connection to the band. I've also included a photo of me and the guys taken backstage (also in 1999) at the Shrine Auditorium the night they opened for Britney Spears.
All the best,
Tim
