After starting making VCDs in 2000, this page is still getting lots of inquiries. It's now apparant that I have to write out an explanation that will hopefully clear up some misconceptions. The internet has changed, youtube has changed everything. These are not downloads. If you want to download something, check out my Downloads section. You can also look at my sample video. Or keep watch on my youtube account. Those of you seeking Moffatt downloads don't forget to check out online search engines, and p2p searches like limewire. These VCDs started ages ago as discs full of videos people could buy. But after finding my efforts stolen, I decided it wasn't worth it. You can find my original rant below. If I'm going to spend so much time and effort on this stuff to just have it ripped off then I'm just wasting my time. As one who stole so eloquently put it "anyone can record it, it's not yours," I lost interest in the project. Per this individual's advice, you should just record it yourself. The page stays up here not because you can download these videos. This will never be a download gallery. But instead it stays up as this website does: as an archive. Use it to relive the old times, and see what happened in different interviews. This thing is archival in nature, nothing more.
Begin Rant:
For whatever reason, people like to use stuff off my site without permission. I find it disgusting and disrespectful. I get a kick out of sharing extensive collections of Moffatt memorabilia and photographs with fellow fans. But I find it harder and harder to be inspired enough to work on this project. If I'm not appreciated I don't see a point in continuing. Once again a select few are ruining it for all. If you want to use an image, ask for permission. I'm extremely lenient and often offer untagged versions depending on the project. All I ask in return is a simple shout-out or link back here. Another problem I have encountered is videos that I have created being spread around the net. True, tv shows and things of that nature are copyrighted by their original owner. But as a fan, I feel inclined to share them with other fans who live far away or never got to see The Moffatts back in the day. Acquiring such a large collection of videos wasn't easy. Perhaps others have a problem with me charging money for VCDs. Let me assure you that I have not made a profit thus far. Scouring the globe for old video tapes and other video sources is not cheap. And in all honesty, 35 gigabytes worth of material is expensive to host. I don't have the money for that kind of webspace. Hence I have sold videos. Another thing to think about: every 1 minute of video takes me about 15 minutes to record, edit, convert, compress, tag, create screen captures, and write descriptions for. If people are just going to disrespect my hard work, why should I bother continuing? At this point, I can't think of a reason. Some people are concerned that I am making money off The Moffatts. Let me reiterate that I have yet to see a profit, and any guilt is on my own conscience. So much guilt that in fact, I made a sizeable donation to something directly benefiting members Moffatt to ensure I never see a profit. I'm just a poor college student, nothing more. I feel bad that there are patient, and respectful individuals who deserve better... I wish there was a better answer. Unfortunately, until I feel it worthwhile I don't plan on working on my website any time soon. My site and message board aren't going anywhere, and will remain intact for archival purposes if nothing else. I'm not going anywhere, just not pursuing any Moffatt-related projects right now. Feel free to contact me with any questions, reactions, sympathy, etc. Email me at webmaster@walkingbehind.com, or drop me a line at the forum. 1-26-06
